The International Racquetball Tour (IRT) is coming to you LIVE March 12-15 in Lombard, Illinois, just west of the “Windy City”, at The Glass Court Swim & Fitness Center for the Tour’s ninth Tier 1 (T1) tournament of the 2019-2020 season: The 35th Annual KWM Gutterman Shamrock Shootout presented by MyPillow.

Thirty-five years is over three decades of the Lombard and Illinois racquetball community supporting the world’s fastest sport, and if you have the chance to make it to the Glass Court that weekend, you’ll witness everyone’s love for the game, the Tour, and all of the star-studded athletes. We encourage all those in the racquetball community to come out and see racquetball competition at the highest level!

The Shamrock Shootout was first started by the late Diane Jaskier (1952-2008), mother of Dan Jaskier, President of the Glass Court Swim & Fitness Center. With the support of owner Joe DeArmas (Dan’s Stepdad), Dan and the staff of the Glass Court Swim & Fitness Center, and help from Geoff Peters, Doug Halverson, Cheryl Kirk, and the many volunteers of the Illinois State Racquetball Association (ISRA), the Shamrock Shootout was able to carry on its proud tradition and blossom into a T1 IRT tournament five years ago!

“The Glass Court used to have pro events back in the ’80s, so it’s had some great racquetball history,” Peters, from Chicago, Illinois said. “We had to work with local sponsors and local players to get the first one, and now we’ve expanded it from singles to include pro doubles. The community and support for the sport make that all possible.”

Family is a strong core value of the Glass Court Swim & Fitness Center, and it has been used as a social gathering spot for many years. Players and gym members use the Center as both an escape from the world, and a place to stay in shape or work on your game. From courts to pools, to tracks to machines and more, the Glass Court Swim & Fitness Center has exactly what you’re looking for in a workout and a hangout spot with their member lounge.

“The lounge tends to be a place where we’ve had parties that started early and have gone late, and the Shamrock will be no different,” Peters said. “This year, we will continue our popular tradition of a St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage dinner, and we will also have beer steins available for personalized etching from our sponsor, Stella Artois on Saturday night.”

There’s always a big crowd at the Shamrock Shootout, and although the facility and food is nice, it’s all about the racquetball action! Not a single IRT player in the Top 20 is expected to miss this event, and with over $20,000 in total prize money, who would miss this T1!?  Andree Parrilla (#5), from San Luis Potosí, Mexico seems to be a crowd favorite every year. Parrilla won the Shamrock Shootout during the 2017-2018 season, and seems to always feel comfortable out on the iconic Glass Court. About 250 total players are expected to register for the Shamrock Shootout, and registration is still open: Register For The 35th Annual KWM Gutterman Shamrock Shootout

Peters said he’s looking forward to this year’s event and has to thank Keith Minor, owner of KWM Gutterman, the title sponsor for the 35th annual Shamrock Shootout. Peters also thanks the platinum sponsors for the event: Jim Schlicher of PapaNicholas Coffee, MyPillow, Rick Seaberg, Platt Hill Nursery, and Tony Cosmano of Anthony’s Pizza as well as multiple Gold and Silver Sponsors who have stepped up to ensure that the IRT continues to compete in Illinois!
