ProKennex Tournament of Champions Postponed; Florida Caps IRT Season
Season’s end just got hotter as the Florida IRT ProAm will now cap the Tier 1 calendar for the men’s professional International Racquetball Tour’s 2016-2017 season. “We’ve decided to postpone the ProKennex Tournament of Champions until next fall or winter,” explained Tournament Director, Hank Marcus, about the pro stop originally scheduled for May 4-7, 2017. “Although the pieces are in place to go forward, a number of factors, including the loss of a key volunteer at the MAC [Multnomah Athletic Club], combined with our plans for an exciting new concept for next season led to our decision to schedule a new date during the 2017-2018 IRT season when we can introduce the change while maintaining a first class experience for spectators, players, and fans.”
IRT President Jason Mannino supported the decision, and looks forward to the opportunities the new concept offers. He’s working with Tournament of Champions organizers and the Oregon Racquetball Association to finalize a new date with an announcement expected early in May 2017.
All affiliated with the MAC, the Tournament of Champions, and the IRT apologize to everyone for any inconvenience, and appreciate the support over the years. To accommodate players, The Lloyd Athletic Club in Portland has graciously stepped in to host an event May 5-6. Registration begins Thursday April 13 at Oregonracquetball.org.
