Suivant Consulting Pro Am Presented by Zurek Construction Recap
The Suivant Consulting Pro-Am Presented by Zurek Construction tournament is in the books! What a tournament! Let’s start this by saying how great it was to see professional racquetball again. With 48 singles entries and 14 doubles teams, the quality of the amazing players of the IRT was evident in every match.
Congratulations to Sam Murray (singles), and Alex Landa and Sudsy Monchik (doubles)!
Sam was, in a word, awesome. He battled through an extremely tough draw. His last three matches were tiebreakers, which he won by 11-7 (Javier Mar), 11-9 (Alex Landa), and 11-10 (Conrrado Moscoso). Not bad! Sam was intense, consistent, smart, and always calm and quiet. Big Canada had an amazing tournament and earned his first tour victory.
The doubles action was equally exciting. Sudsy Monchik and Alex Landa won a great doubles bracket – needing 3 tiebreakers to do it, including an 11-6 win in the finals over Eduardo Garay and Sebastian Franco. Professional doubles racquetball…if you haven’t watched those matches (or any of the others), go to our YouTube channel – it’s wonderfully fun to watch.
The tournament ran very well. The IRT put the tournament slightly behind on Saturday as we had 5 of the 6 matches on the show court, all streamed, go to tiebreaker. We had scheduled a three-hour break that didn’t happen. My thanks to Chad Bailey and Rob Lyons for their patience in that regard.
Record numbers everywhere!
We had record numbers of viewers on our streaming platforms. I think everyone was hungry to see our sport back. The quality of the streaming was excellent. Thank you, Pablo Fajre. The commentators, from our own Dean Baer and Favio Soto to the guest commentators of my wife Karen, as well as the HOF cast of Sudsy Monchik, Kane Waselenchuk, and Fran Davis were fantastic. Thank you all. Mostly, though, thanks to you, our fans, for watching.
We hope you were able to watch the bonus streaming of the Juniors 18- finals. Those kids were amazing! Congratulations to Erick Trujillo, who beat Sebastian Longoria in the finals in a tiebreaker (the theme of the weekend).
Safety first, of course!
We worked hard to maintain a safe environment at the club. I can’t thank Jason Chan enough. He was the hardest working person at the tournament. He never stopped working or smiling. We’ll go back to Recreation Atlanta anytime for an event.
Finally, thanks to Donald Williams and Francisco Fajardo for sponsoring a Grand Slam event. Everyone who watched or participated should reach out and appreciate what they did for the sport.
So happy we are finally back!
All of us at the IRT were happy to be back. Our next event is the 36th Annual Shamrock Shootout presented by KWM Gutterman, March 11-14 in Lombard, Illinois.
Now that I’ve gushed about the tournament, let us know if you have any thoughts, comments or suggestions.
